Dear Parents, Guardians and students:

It has been an absolute pleasure working with such amazing students each day. I find it difficult to believe that we are already saying goodbye to 2014!  I am certain that 2015 will be wonderful as well.

Students are encouraged to read over the Christmas break.  I will be reading at least 2 hours a week too, so feel free to check in with me to make sure that I am meeting expectations.  :) We will motivate each other to meet or beat our reading rates in 2015.

I would like to thank my students for their kindness and enthusiasm each day. I truly love teaching at Summerside Intermediate. It is my sincere hope that you like it here too. Looking forward to learning together in 2015.

Happy holidays!

Reading Assessments

Grade 7 and Grade 8 students will be completing diagnostic reading assessments in class.  These assessments are not for "marks" as students often ask. They are simply used as a tool to guide instruction. :) Throughout the year we will be tracking progress; identifying strengths and areas in need of more support.
Students are to read 20 minutes at home each day or  140 minutes per week to meet reading expectations. Some nights may be busier than others so 140 minutes overall is the minimum  goal per week. Each child has a reading log to update each day.
Thank you and have a great day!

Assignments and reminders

Grade 8LA Biography project due by Thursday, January 9th. Computer lab time has been given.* Remember to check your Bibliography handout to help you complete this assignment. Give credit to all of your sources on this page.  If not finished by Wednesday pm, you may email it to your home account to complete it, or finish in the library Thursday at lunch. The projects do not have to be typed, I just wanted to give everyone equal opportunity to use our computer lab.* Read each day for minimum 20 minutes.
Grade 7 LA: Reading your novels and gathering supplies for your own, original narrative! :) Feel free to work on your draft at home, but you will be given class time. My handout and questions will guide you through this project.I would like to track your progress each day and witness your growth as a writer. Please see me if you need supplies or have any questions. :) Mrs. Thain
