Grade 7 Language Arts projects due on Tuesday. Please remember to keep your Writing Traits in mind. ( Organization, Ideas, Conventions, Voice, Sentence Fluency and those dreaded....Conventions! ) :)
* If finished already, check out the latest helpful hints on debating! Ask your family members and friends if they have ever been in a debate before, perhaps they can offer you some suggestions too!
Grade 7 French: Working on our portfolios in the computer lab. If you finished early, challenge yourself...can you find any cool websites that help people learn French online? Or...have you played www.freerice.com lately? They have a French vocabulary game that actually helps feed the hungry too! :)
Grade 8 French: Entrepreneur en Herbe: Do some research and look at samples of the most interesting restaurants! Use the template I gave you to guide your research. What will be the decor? Menu? Secret Recipe? Promotion/deals? Etc.
Thanks and have a great day!

Up to Wednesday, November 21st
Grade 7 Language Arts: Each student must bring their novel, graphic novel, anthology etc to class each day. I will be conferencing with students and I prefer them to read what they are most comfortable with. I choose the genres in class, so this gives students the freedom to read what they wish on their time. User Friendly questions were due on Monday, please see me if you have not completed the assignment.
Something to think about... "If you had a robot, what would be the advantages?"
French classes: Since we have completed the first segment of Health Curriculum Outcomes, we are now moving into French. There is great diversity within each class as some have never taken French before in their former country, some just started French last year, some feel comfortable, some feel quite confident and others fear they have forgotten what they learned because they haven't had a chance to practice!
I understand how this can be scary as both of my parents were English first language. I use project based learning and many visuals in order to allow students to work at their own pace. Please keep in mind
you will get out of this program what you put into it. The more we practice, the more we will improve and please feel free to ask questions as this may help others too! I will add helpful websites that I find online. These lessons for beginners can be review or brand new for those new to the language.
If you find any helpful links, please let me know as I believe technology is a great tool for second language learners.

Something to think about? What are the advantages of learning a second language? What does the research say? You will get lots of hits on Google, but how could speaking French help you in the future?
Thank you and have a great day!
P.S
See who is checking the homework BLOG time for a treat question! What does this mean in English?
" J'ai trois chiens et deux chats!" = what does this mean? First 5 to see me next day receive a treat! :)

Up to Friday, November 16th
It is my sincere pleasure to be back with students and staff at SIS again. I wish to thank Ms.Maureen for her professionalism and devotion to student learning during her stay.
Language Arts: I am returning to the Tech Effects unit and this week students will be doing a writing assignment in response to an exciting piece of fiction! Something to think about before we read, "Would you want a computer that had a personality feature and could communicate with you?" " What would be the advantages and disadvantages?"
Students are reminded to read every day for a minimum of 20 minutes to build fluency and grow dendrites. :)
As well as the writing component this week, we will also be reading an article about the use of robots in society. Students need to think about what they might like to have a robot for. Will it clean your room? Keep brothers and sisters from invading your space? ;) Just to give you a head start on a cool project that is to come.
Grade 7 Health/French: This week, presentations will be completed based on the Wellness Outcomes that Ms. Maureen was completing. There is a final section on bullying and resiliency. Students will be responding to written materials as well as media text. Next week, we will make the transition to Core French. Informal diagnostic testing will give us a greater sense of where each student is at, who might need more support and who might need a challenge.
Great 8 Health: This group is just completing the Drug Use and Abuse Section which includes the Canadian Documentary Through a Blue Lens. We should be able to finish the health outcomes this week or Monday at the latest. We will make the transition to French next week. :)
Thank you and have a great day!
