Grade 7FLA completed Purpose and Audience assignment. Presentations begin today. Thank you for your efforts.
Grade 7 French: We continued to review our new vocabulary and verb tenses. We also are looking at some of the online FREE French tutorials and games to make learning more fun.

Here is the recipe students asked me to share with you. Very easy and delicious. :O)
I found this on a free recipe site.
Orea Cheesecake Bites
Ingredients:
1 package of chocolate chips. ( melt slowly on low heat, stir often)
1 small package of cream cheese ( 8oz) drop this in the melted chocolate chips. * I would allow this to chill in the fridge to make it easier to work with. You can drop this from the spoon or roll into little balls.
1 bag of Oreo cookies. ( crushed) roll mixture covering it with the cookie crumbs. :O)
Chill or even put in the freezer. They will be messy if they are still warm when you try to cover them with cookie crumbs. ;o)
Makes 25 Oreo bites.

Grade Seven Language Arts: Read Confessions of a Gamer. Completed reading response questions and examined how to deliver the perfect presentation! Reading with fluency remains an important goal at this level. Every child should read for a minimum of 30 minutes each night. This could be a newspaper, magazine, novel, online articles, or even their notes from the day before. A word wall is also a great way to expand vocabulary or to play www.freerice.com. * Be sure to choose a level that provides you with a challenge too. :O)
Grade 7 French: Just finished up the theme Zone Sportive! Thank you for your efforts in class and during presentations. Now we are reviewing key vocabulary used in daily conversation as well as some festive activities too. :)

Language Arts: Today we worked on Relative pronouns, nouns and adjective clauses. May not sound that fun....;o) however with some imagination, students created examples that were much more exciting than those sentences within our text books.

Please read every day for at least 20 minutes any novel, magazine, graphic novel, newspaper etc.

Just a reminder that Language Arts stories are due tomorrow. We have been examining the 6 Writing Traits and our main objective within this report is to pay special attention to conventions. ( spelling, punctuation etc)

Grade Seven Language Arts: We just completed our Reading Response Questions for Last Chance Summer. Now students are working in groups to complete our Speaking Outcomes. Each team is responsible for an authentic sequel that follows the voice and style of the author. Presentations will begin on Monday, June 7th, 2010. I look forward to your creations!!!! Please see Speaking Outcome section to ensure that you remember: tone, volume, eye contact, pacing, etc.

Grade Seven Language Arts: Good copy of your Mystery Story Project due on May 4th. We have had class time to work on this so you many need to work on this at home if you have not quite finished. Keep in mind the idea,main characters, minor characters, clues, red herrings, plot, setting and how the story will end. Value: 36 points based on sentence fluency, word choice, organization, ideas, conventions and voice.
Grade 8 Health: Drug Use and Abuse Talk Show Project due on May 10th. Class time is given so use your time wisely and you should not have a great deal of homework.

Grade 7 Health: Healthy Choices Road Map activity due on Wednesday, April 28th.

April 19th Assignment Updates

Grade Seven Language Arts: Mystery unit continued. Students have had class time again today, but if they have not finished their brochure or radio narrative, it must be completed at home tonight.

Grade Seven Health: Please finish Journal #1. There were four questions to complete in response to the article entitled, "Me". Class time was given to do this but some may want to rewrite or finish up at home.

Grade 8 Health: Group activity today linked to the outcome, " develop strategies to deal with pressures to have a certain look or lifestyle." Students view a short video clip, then work in teams to determine the messages within the media text. Presentations will begin tomorrow as class time is given to complete this.

Brainstorm ideas for your stories. Ask your family and friends what their favorite mysteries are.

Grade 7 Language Arts for January 13th, 2010

I was truly impressed by the quality of the answers given within the reading response to "User Friendly" by T. Ernesto Bethancourt. I would encourage parents to talk with your child about the technology that you believe has had the biggest impact on society. The Tech Effects unit covers: literal, inferential and evaluative questions
how to organize ideas in writing
narrative text patterns
how to deliver oral presentations
word study skills such as using prepositions, comma usage,
adjectives, nouns, as well
as expanding our vocabulary.
These outcomes are covered within class, however, I would ask that students ready the novel or literary piece of their choice at home for at least 20 minutes each day to build fluency and vocabulary. Thank you! Mrs. Thain :)

This week we began a new theme entitled, "Tech Effects". Each student had to complete one of four questions, then they had to share with the class. The majority finished this today and presentations will be completed by tomorrow. I have truly appreciated the quality of the work submitted thus far.
